Golf Tournament to Support Workforce Development
The Pennsylvania Hospitality Foundation is pleased to announce it's 10th annual Golf Tournament at be held at the beautiful Hershey Country Club on Thursday, September 4, 2008. Proceeds from this tournament solely benefit the Pennsylvania Hospitality Foundation in its workforce development efforts in the Hospitality Industry.
The Training for Lodging Careers Program is being offered in 30 high schools, vocational-technical schools and career centers across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Career Centers in Berks, Westmoreland and Fayette Counties, along with the State Correctional Institution in Somerset County, have launched line-level training programs within the last year. Furness High School and Swenson Arts and Technology High School (both located in Philadelphia), the Somerset County Technology Center and Connellsville Career and Technical Center have launched the two-year Lodging Management Program within the last year. There are several schools and career centers across the State considering the program at this time. These include Reading - Muhlenberg Technical School, Carbon Career and Technical Institute and Luzerne County Vocational Technical School. With the addition of the Gaming Industry in Pennsylvania, job growth in the hospitality industry is at an all time high. The PTLA Golf Tournament supports these very important workforce development areas.
The tournament will begin with a picnic lunch at 11:30am before setting out for the 12:30pm shotgun start. The method of play is scramble. Multiple teams from local hotel associations and convention and visitor bureaus will be competing for the coveted Cups. Complimentary beverages and snacks will be provided throughout play by one of PTLA's smiling staff. Several hole-in-one prizes will be offered including a $10,000 cash prize. A wonderful Awards Reception and Dinner will offer a fitting conclusion to the day. The renowned culinary team of the Hershey Country Club will provide a fabulous meal in the new Picard Grand Pavilion, followed by the presentation of trophies and door prize drawing. An addition this year will be an exciting Silent Auction by the Tournament Pros. Items will include Pennsylvania sports team memorabilia.
